Shri Thanedar
Politicians love to say they don't take money from corporate political action committees or billionaires, even when some actually do.
The Detroit News reports that Democratic Detroit Congressman Shri Thanedar is telling voters that he's not taking campaign donations from corporate PACs or billionaires when, in fact, he is.
So far this year, The News reports, he has received contributions from at least three PACs with corporate ties: the Detroit-based utility DTE Energy Co. and defense contractors Honeywell International and General Dynamics.
The News goes on to report:
In the last two years, he took at least $24,500 from corporate PACs, including AT&T, Delta Air Lines, General Motors Co., Home Depot, Pfizer, and Southwest Airlines. He has previously accepted money from PACs linked to Google, UPS, Walmart, Verizon, Ford Motor Co., Toyota, and defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
Shri defends his remarks, telling The News that most of his campaign funds are from individuals and his own money, so he's really "rounding up."
"Over 99% of my campaign funds are from individuals and my own funds. We were rounding up. Anyone who thinks corporations have any influence on me is ignorant and misinformed."
